We’ve all been there… We’re working on a Word document, and things are just not lining up correctly on the page. You’ve deleted spaces, added and removed lines, retyped sections… and it still looks wrong.
What may be tripping you up are the Formatting Marks that Word uses but normally doesn’t display. You can turn on those marks by clicking on the Display area in the Word Options dialog box:
You have the option to display specific marks, such as spaces or paragraph markers, or you can just do like I normally do and turn them all on.
Once you do that and return to your document, you’ll see all the hidden marks that you never saw before:
I can now see where I have spaces, tabs, and paragraphs, and I can start to edit the document without all the confusion over why certain things aren’t acting like you expected.
