Sending a Microsoft Team chat message from the search bar

Sandra Mahan showed me a cool tip the other day when it comes to sending a Microsoft Teams chat message. You can do that without even leaving the chat bar at the top of the screen! Here’s how that works…

In the search bar at the top of the screen, type in the shortcut /chat:

Teams returns a space for the person’s name and the message:

I typed in duff and it found my name for the chat:

In the Type a message area, I put in my short message:

Teams tells me it’s sending the message, and I can click or press Enter to be taken to the actual chat screen for the person:

And there’s my message!

This obviously isn’t something you’d use for a long message, but it’s a nice way to start a chat with someone without having to try and find their entry in your chat listings.
