Have you ever received an Excel spreadsheet from someone, and it’s loaded with comments, conditional formatting, and a lot of other things that you just don’t need for your purposes? There’s a menu option in Excel that will remove all the formatting for you in a single step.
Here we have an example of an Excel spreadsheet that has bolding and highlighting that I’d like to get rid of. Highlight the rows and columns that contain the formatting, and then select Home > Clear:
The Clear menu option has a number of different sub-options that can refine the types of formatting you’d like to clear. In this case, I want to remove all the formatting:
When I select Clear Formats, all the formatting, including fonts, bolding, and highlighting are now gone:
This also works for removing hyperlinks, comments, and the actual contents of the spreadsheet.
