It’s not unusual to have an Excel spreadsheet where the columns either have too much or not enough spacing. You can manually drag the column dividers back and forth to resize them, but you can also let Excel size them automatically using the AutoFit option.
Here we have a spreadsheet that desperately needs some column resizing:
In order to resize the columns to fit the table header and data, highlight all the columns and select the Format > AutoFit Column Width option:
You then have a spreadsheet where all the columns are sized correctly to accommodate the widest data cell:
Sandra Mahan also showed me a second way to do the same thing. If you highlight one or more columns and then double-click on a column divider, Excel will AutoFit all the highlighted columns:
