Manage your contacts with the People App in new Teams

In classic Teams, you could manage your contacts in the Contacts area of Chat. In new Teams, that function has changed, and is now supported in the People app. Here’s how to add that to new Teams, as well as how it works…

If you don’t already have the People app in the left-side navigation in new Teams, click on the ellipsis to add it:

Type people in the search bar, then select the People app:

If you want to make sure it stays on the left navigation, go ahead and pin it:

Once you’re in the People app, click on the Add contact icon to add a new person:

Search for the person you want to add, and click on their name:

When the Add to contacts appears, click on Add:

This shows the information associated with that person. Click on Save to add them to your contacts:

To add them to an existing category (or to a new category), click on the ellipsis next to their name. You can add them to your Favorites, or click on Add category to either select from an existing category or add them to a new category like in this example:

The category shows up on the left side of the app, and you can click on that category to see all the members of that category, as well as their status:

Something you may want to do is to click on the ellipsis on the right side of the contacts view and select the Categories column so that it shows all your contacts with their associated category:

Here is what the view looks like with the Categories column added:

One nice feature of the person’s entry is that you can hover over their name and see icons to start a chat, call them, or see an expanded list of options, such as starting an email:
