Blocking Junk Mail in Outlook

Into each Inbox some Junk Mail must fall… and we get to play Whack-A-Mole to try and get rid of it. Here are a couple of options for getting junk mail out of your inbox and into your Junk Email folder…

If you’re in an email that you feel qualifies as junk mail, then select Home > Junk > Block Sender:

This ensures that emails from that particular person at that particular email domain go to your Junk Email folder.

But what if that particular company (let’s say acme.com) keeps sending you emails from different people or accounts? Then you can use Home > Junk > Junk E-mail Options to get a little more aggressive on blocking their emails:

Using the Blocked Senders option in the Junk Email Options dialog box, you can block individuals or entire email domains, like acme.com or @acme.com:

Just click Add and put the email domain (with or without the @ symbol) in the Add address or domain dialog box, then click OK. That will ensure that all emails from that company/email domain end up in your Junk Email folder without you having to deal with them.

As you can see, there is also a tab to indicate safe senders that we are possibly flagging as SPAM before it gets to you. This tab works much the same way as the Blocked Senders tab does, and allows you to receive emails that you want, even though it didn’t pass the company spam filters.
