I received a question from a customer this week asking if there was a way to sort bookmarks in their web browser. Here’s what I found out.
In Internet Explorer, you have the ability to sort both your list of bookmark folders (and unfoldered bookmarks), as well as the bookmarks within a folder.
Click on the Star icon in the upper right corner to see all your Internet Explorer bookmarks:
To sort all of the bookmark folders (and bookmarks not in any folder), right-click on any of the folder names and select the Sort By Name option:
That will sort the folders, but it won’t sort the bookmarks *within* a folder. To do that, open up the folder and right-click one of the bookmark names. Select the Sort By Name option, and all the bookmarks in the folder will be sorted:
As for Chrome, there is no sort feature. You have to manually go into the bookmark area and order them manually. There are Chrome extensions that offer that functionality, but it’s not a good idea to start loading up Chrome with a number of extensions unless you are sure that they are secure and/or won’t compromise the functionality of the browser.
