Showing total number of items in an Outlook folder

A work colleague pointed out a cool feature in Outlook that I didn’t know about, and that I plan on using on a few mail folders. Instead of the default setting to show the number of unread messages, you can instead show the total number of items in a folder.

Here’s a list of the folders in my Outlook client:

outlook-folders-default-settings-20160927-1

By default, the folders show now many unread messages I have.

To change the setting on my VariousProjects folder, I right-click on the folder name and select Properties:

outlook-folder-properties-option-20160927-2

The dialog box gives me the opportunity to change the setting to Show total number of items:

outlook-folder-properties-dialog-box-20160927-3

And now I know how many emails I’m hoarding in that folder:

outlook-folders-total-messages-20160927-4
