Using a keyboard shortcut to paste in plain text in browser-based Microsoft 365 applications

My wife (who does user adoption and training for Microsoft 365 software) ran across this new feature that popped up on her browser-based Word document the other day. Now you can use a keyboard shortcut to paste in plain text without having to use a drop-down menu to do so. Here’s how that works…

Here’s the message that popped up:

What this means that instead of using the right-click dropdown menu to paste your content in plain text (stripped of all formatting), you can use CTRL-SHIFT-V (instead of just SHIFT-V) to paste the content into your Word document without any formatting.

When I played around a bit more with it, it seems to work on any browser-based Microsoft 365 application, such as Word (in the browser), Excel (in the browser), OneNote (in the browser)… even Outlook (in the browser).

The key here (in case you missed it) is that it only works in the browser. If you’re using the client-based version of the application, you still need to do the right-click drop-down to paste in plain text.
